Brilliantly written and read! This is a stunning production! Kate & Janey’s deep, meticulous research and trust of spreadsheets shines. They weave the fictional into the historical ad seamlessly as one of their characters joins a repair to a damaged robe!! A triumph!!

I love historical fiction. It’s one of my favorite genres. This one does not disappoint. Lots of action and plenty of woman power. I was captivated from the start. I listened to this on audiobook on a road trip and it was super entertaining. You really feel for these characters. However, you also feel sadness because the earthquake in San Francisco really happened and destroyed so many people. This is LGTBQ friendly & I love that too. This would be a great book to read during pride or during May for Asian Heritage Month.

I always enjoy Kate Quinn's novels, and I enjoy the ones she co-writes even more. This story takes place around the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco. The main characters Suling, from Chinatown, and Gemma, an opera singer, are interwoven by their relationships with a rich and powerful man. Other true historical characters are mixed in, which led me to search who was real and who was fiction. I did have to suspend disbelief quite a bit for this story, but it was entertaining.
