You think for a documentarian she’d be better prepared for true crime

It was about 100 pages too long, and had some unnecessary plot lines IMO. It took it a long time to get good, but it did get good
Mark was a walking red flag and I knew he was involved pretty early on.

To be honest, at first I could NOT get into this book, and almost DNF’d it, but my mom read it last year and encouraged me to keep going. And I’m so glad I did! This book ended up checking all the boxes for what I like in a thriller:
  • a moody and atmospheric setting
  • A sense of dread that keeps on building
  • Plot twists that keep you guessing
  • Audiobook narrated by the author
My only complaints were with the beginning and ending of the book, which both dragged on a bit and didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the mood of this book. But otherwise I would definitely recommend this one to add to your summer thriller list and I can’t wait to read more by Catherine Steadman!

Overall, I liked the idea behind the book, and typically I love this genre. I liked the writing style of Catherine Steadman, and will definitely read another book written by her.

This book starts out amazing. I’d say probably around 50-65% in, it really held my interest. There were things that started to happen that just seemed a bit contrived. A little out there. And then there was the ending. Not completely disappointing, but still I was left wondering why. It felt like the ending could have been great, but instead, it just felt a little rushed. Not my favorite book, but certainly not my least favorite one either. Would make a solid summer reading choice.
