I'm sure I say it on every JLB review I leave, but the Robicheaux series continues to deliver in spades. I get for some he may be like a band who stick with the same core sound rather than too much experimenting, but if it ain't broken...

Typical entry in the Robicheaux series with the usual atmospheric writing and sins from the past plot. Listened to the audio version which was narrated by Mark Hammer.

Burke is the king of the epilogues.

2.5 Not quite sure I could explain how the plot tied together--wish all of it had been resolved. Wish Robicheaux would just take a page about 3/4 through and just lay out all of the connections between all the players. Wish Megan would, at some point, pay for using people.

Not one of Robicheaux's best outings. Characters were somehow underwhelming except for Megan and the plot was tiresome and redundant this time around. But even at his worst James Lee Burke always delivers a fine read.

He's my favorite author. Read a Burke book and your in a dark theater by yourself surrounded and engulfed by his images. I've read them all but can only do so once every 3-4 months because in the end they are their message about the human condition is not hopeful.
