This book focuses more on prose than anything else. While there is some character and plot development the primary focus is the writing itself. Treat this more as a poetry book than a novel and you'll be okay.

There was some I did like (the poetry, the lyrical prose, the beauty in description) but there was a lot that was just, ramblings of repetitiveness. It was hard to finish, but I did it.

Wow I don't like that. It's rambling, so repetitive, features poetry that's repetitious. So far, we're just listing a bunch of ways a person can die. No.

I admired this rather than loved it, hence the 2 stars. I know the writing is deeply poetic and explores huge themes, but I related to this as a poetry collection, rather than an essay. The reveal of the family tree explained some of the strange tangents and juxtapositions, but I would have appreciated this more if it was at the beginning to refer to as I went along.

I'm thinking that this book might be one that stays with me. As the subject matter could be triggering I initially reserved the right to DNF quickly but thankfully the book handles things well.

I listened to the audiobook and really wished I had a physical copy to hand annotate many of the passages.
I wouldn't say this book is for everyone, as its frank and graphic (many f-bombs) whilst also being beautiful and thought-provoking.

I'm also not sure how I've come away feeling it was life-affirming.

As far as rating, this may change when I've had time to think about it, as some parts of this book are 5stars for sure, however a few were a tiny bit much for me to take.
4.5stars (for now!)

Beautiful, poetic, weird, heart breaking, sad, filled with love. Not a standard novel at all! Best for people who like non-standard narratives. Beware of content warnings if needed (violent deaths and sexual assault described)
