this one was cool too. i think every story was the same thing? not as good as the others ive read in this 'series', but thats just because the stories were a little too short for my liking.

Read as part of a reading challenge with my daughter's school: Jack Heath is a clever writer, and brings you 10 stories. 10 different kids in very dangerous situations. They each have 50 minutes to escape.

Each story is unfolding so fast. There is a lot of detail that you grasp in a very small amount of time, and that is the brilliance in the writing. They are all mini stand alone stories, but it's important to read them all ... there is a connection! it is nail biting action, a lot of young characters who take risks and think outside of the box to save others. Each story reminded me of the original 'choose your own adventures books' I read as a child and loved because they moved so quickly, and decisions needed to be made in a matter of seconds with a multitude of twists and turns. A perfect book for kids who just aren't into reading. The stories are short and entertaining to entice them to continue, and the connecting story lines are the hook to keep them there.

A great YA read! I really appreciated the fact that these were short stories about different dangerous scenarios. They were a great easy read and I'm hoping my son will enjoy them when he is a little older

Loved the pace of this for reading out loud. And when your class doesn't want to go play a game because they yell for you to read more, you know you're on a winner.

Gripping adventures, great writing. Highly recommended for big kids and adults.

Heath's book features ten ordinary kids in ten extraordinary situations. There is no time to wait for rescue: these kids have to use all their courage, strength and intelligence to save their own lives, and the lives of the people around them.

Parent's guide:
* A mix of races and backgrounds, both boy and girl characters
* No swearing, no sex, no drugs
* Some violence (situational eg vehicle accidents, or committed by bad guys eg being tied up)
* Lots of scary stuff, eg characters bring nearly crushed, nearly burned, nearly blown up, nearly crashed etc.
* The kids deal with big ethical dilemmas in age appropriate ways eg can you hurt someone if they are endangering you? Is an adult's life more important than a kid's?
* Adults (parents, emergency services) are right there to help out and return the kids to safety, buy without diminishing their efforts.
