Not sure how to feel about book-maybe a lesser version of Catcher in the Rye.

From near the beginning, one knows the author has done something terrible (well, I did) and the highlight of the novel is how it unravels, how the narrator finally admits to his deeds. I am reminded of Donna Tartt's Secret History : we already know what; why and how are so much more intriguing. And the narrator is funny.

Yes it's a crime novel but it's an excellent psychological study and an intelligent, well written novel that puts it on a par with literary fiction rather than your average crime story.
Weirdly, I read this at the same time as I was reading [b:You|20821614|You (You, #1)|Caroline Kepnes|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1411958102s/20821614.jpg|39913517] and there are tons of similarities between them, but Engleby is unarguably the better book.

The story the book tells is more difficult and demanding to read because it deals with a lot of difficult subjects. On the whole, I think the book is really worthwhile to read.
Graphic: Bullying
Moderate: Mental illness
Minor: Alcohol, Drug use, Murder, and Sexism

one of the most narratively interesting novels I have ever read - very thought provoking and such an intriguing character analysis

Really enjoyable audiobook. I liked the strong voice of the narrator and the totally dead pan way it was written. I knew nothing about the story and had no idea where it was going, which was a good thing. I wonder what I would have thought of it as a paper-book really. I expect I would have enjoyed it too, though I know I've found Faulks tough going to read before. It was nice to have something good to listen too whilst sewing though!
