This book is where the series really starts to hit its stride. The

Spoiler

deaths of both half-blood characters and gods

gave this book the gravitas the series previously lacked. It is darker and more mature then the previous three books, and finally shows the actions of the characters having permanent consequences. This installment was, by far, the best in the series, and makes me look forward to the conclusion of the tale in the next book.
