loved this. heartbreaking and honestly a little triggering for me at times LOLLL but still a treat to read. I love the way she writes, can't wait to read more.

"Was it my fault, if she was like that?"
"She laughed her mirthless laugh. You've always had an exaggerated notion of your own responsibilities."

This isn't an especially poignant or important quote to the book, but I just loved the way it felt and sounded.

I think the first story was my favorite - the last a close second. I struggled to keep up with the second story at first but after about 5 pages I was locked in. Each of them made me very sad, but reading them made me a little hopeful too? I guess there was some hope that she put it all down on paper - how harrowing and lonely it can be to be a woman and that I was reading it and got to relate and got to know these women. a little bit it made me worried that I'm just destined to suffer HELP and at the hands of man no less HEEELLPPPP !!!! but still I loved it and I love her. I recommend!

This was excellent. Depressing as hell, but excellent. A wonderful reminder to never lose your sense of self.

Simone de beauvoir is fantastic, no notes.

I know a lot of people don’t like the second short story but I loved it’s honest  portrayal of mental health/grief and so on. It holds no punches.

Reread the third story after finding out I’d been cheated on and it hit so much harder. You feel frustrated at the main character for not leaving Maurice, but also you find yourself understanding her dismay and denial. So sad.
