A new favorite! What a delightful, touching fake boyfriend romance! The love and desire between Jackson and Nick grows very organically and enchanted me completely. The friends to lovers aspect is written incredibly well. I loved how genuine their friendship felt, the way they communicated so honestly, knowing and accepting the other, warts and all, and then gradually realizing they have the potential to be so much more still. Jackson was my absolute favorite, and I adored him for supporting Nick, even when they have such different perspectives on certain situations. The storyline about Nick’s troubled relationship with his family, especially his father, feels almost as important as the romance itself, and I mean that in the best way possible. It felt very authentic to me, and it gave added emotional depth to the story. The whole family thing and its potential for turning a holiday romance into truly heartwarming territory is what I look for during this time of year, and Jay Northcote absolutely delivered.

This was a really fun and sweet story with a friends-to-lovers relationship. Always love reading Jay’s holiday books!

Pleasant, but not as good as other holiday fare I’ve read from Northcote. The dad thing seemed contrived, for some reason.

I just want to thank this author for not making it such a big deal that Jackson is black!!!!!!! Thank youuuuuu. I can't stand when a character or love interest being black is blown up and made into a big deal, I love when it's who the character is and thats that.

Friends to lovers, fake dating and close proximity are my three favorite tropes in romance but having it set in winter just makes it so much better

Nick has a bad relationship with his parents, especially his dad and hasn't had a Christmas with his family in years but gets a call from his mom inviting him over this Christmas. But Nick needs Jackson there as moral support so they decide to fake date

This is another brilliant Jay Northcote Christmas romance to add to the collection.

It's perhaps a little more angsty than some of his previous ones, but it works all the better for it.

One of my favourite tropes is friends to lovers, there's just something inherently special I think about that moment when you realise feelings have changed.

Add in a fake relationship sub plot and a close proximity setting and you have all the necessary ingredients for a thoroughly enjoyable read.

I wasn't sure I was going to be happy at first. I was a bit peed off at Nick when he was behaving like a petulant child in spite of his dad's obvious efforts to try and patch things up.

But then I figured he'd got enough reason stored up from his previous strained relationship with his dad to allow him a bit of leeway.

I was glad it didn't linger though and I appreciated the gentle nudge from Jackson to take the olive branche while it was available.

The steam level is on the lighter side, but they have such a wonderfully strong friendship, I didn't find myself obviously missing it.

I also appreciated the way the fact Jackson is black wasn't made into a big deal. The information is given to the reader almost as an aside and there's no heavy lifting given to that element of the narrative.

There's a nice rounding out of both location and plot with the secondary characters and an Epilogue which is very sweet and funny at the same time.

Definitely one to add to the festive reading list.
