i think this book perfectly encompasses the vibes of Gen Z
everything is fucked, and the government is fucked, and you realise that just because someone is a person of authority doesn't mean they are always right and not everything they do is justified, something's are straight up wrong, even if authority says it's right. and you suddenly realise it and try to fight against it, but you feel so powerless.
but you're also part of a generation that is so much more accepting and ready to change things, and you're figuring out how to survive in a world that is so set against you. a world that created you just to tell you that you're wrong and dangerous and should be contained.

and the realness of the characters
the cute mutants aren't the noble good guys, they aren't perfect, they aren't the chosen ones. they're just a bunch of teenagers with weird powers who are trying to survive while still figuring themselves out and yes, that really resonates.
