This book needed less romantic interest (who sometimes acted like a creep stalker??) and more focus on her friendship and dealing with the grief of her health (or the lack of possible illness) also justice for Mara to have a better friend.

awwwww what a silly little (slightly heavy at times) rom com! this is 100% like a diet emily henry book, not for any insulting reason, just that it maybe doesn’t go quite to the depth henry does, but certainly fleshes out characters beyond just falling in love. they’re individuals with their own very real problems, and that made this a fulfilling read 🤩🤩

alison is a complicated character. she’s got a lottttt going on, and that makes sense cuz cancer is never a particularly light subject. i was happy to see she has such strong platonic relationships and both mara and chelsea are so deserving of their own books. curious to see what palmer has planned!

adam is equally complicated, and on top of his already present issues, is dealing with grief in a different way to alison. i think the discussion of grief, while short, was really telling of why he reacted in some of the ways he did 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

RUSSELL NEEDS TO LEAVE. that’s all i will say. althoughhhh, sometimes he was a good laugh. but mostly he got in the way 😑😑

i think some of my critiques of the book are mostly just in writing (but this is her first book so i’m gonna give a lot of it a pass) and ambitions with plot reducing the time we actually spend resolving the issues. like, a big problem is alison’s relationship with her mother. that got like maybe 4 pages at the end; was soooo not enough. also, why r we dealing with work and trivia and also all these health things and also the relationship and the apartment and what??? yes, it’s realistic, ppl have many issues to deal with always, but the book only brushes on some of them. like we never see the work stuff resolve. idk, it was a very good idea in theory but i think it needed more flushing out in practice.

overall, would really recommend if u want a rom com that also takes life seriously at times. added bonus if you’re a movie buff, cuz there were some random references i so did not get at all 😳😳
