A very solid 3.5! I threw this on because apparently I can’t drive anywhere without listening to an audiobook anymore and it was very cute! I typically don’t like a third act breakup but this one actually felt necessary for the character development and I got a three months later epilogue which I ALWAYS appreciate!

Ellie Palmer has claimed a spot as a must read author. This was a well written debut novel and I’m excited for her future books.
Alison has BRCA1 and in many ways this is her journey of self-discovery post-mastectomy. She finds herself cleaning out her recently deceased ex-boyfriend’s apartment with his best friend Adam, who she starts falling for. Meanwhile, she’s pretending to still have been in a relationship with her ex-boyfriend (for his family’s sake.) At first I was apprehensive that we didn’t get Adam’s POV, but this story isn’t really about Adam. It’s Alison’s story about grief and loss post-mastectomy and the love she finds with Adam happens to be part of her journey through it.
I loved how seamlessly the BRCA1 mentions were weaved into the story and romance. It was present but not in an overwhelming or overpowering way, which felt realistic. Ellie Palmer is a BRCA1 carrier and you can tell she writes from experience.
I loved the best friends in this book. They genuinely cared for Alison and were such an important support system for her. Their characterization was very well fleshed out.

Very funny banter coupled with 2 relatively sad heroes. Alison and Adam have a great story and grow (Ali’s side story of the breast cancer gene was interesting). 345 is PG but good.
I enjoyed the beginning quite a bit but found halfway through it lost its interest for me.
