Ah, this book... I have such mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I absolutely loved the BRCA representation—it was refreshing to see it framed as the start of a journey rather than the end, and I really appreciated how the author handled it.

On the other hand, I struggled with the romance. I just didn’t feel the attraction between the characters, and I think a big part of that was the lack of the MMC’s POV. Without insight into his thoughts, it was hard to understand his feelings, which made it difficult to connect with the romance or truly fall for these characters.

I’d give it 5 stars solely for the fact that it discusses how many people think hiking/being in the wilderness is necessary to have a valid life.

Truly a great read. It touched upon so many subjects - grief, survivors guilt, the aforementioned wilderness issue, friendship, and love. Entertaining from start to finish.

i almost dnf’d this book halfway through because i simply felt that in their misunderstandings period they had NO chemistry, BUT i was won back by the survivors guilt tackling/best friend side characters/the genuinely good relationship she has with her dead ex? i had fun! i do kinda feel like a pitfall of a romance novel is when you’re convinced into loving the male lead but have no idea why he’s into the main character, which is a little present here. but i did like her too in the end!

So sad that this is just 2.75 stars! It’s mainly because the main character was just unbearable at times. She was incredibly hypocritical and so oblivious to her own flaws that it made me want to shake her!
From the very beginning, it was obvious what her ‘flaw’ was (as every romance protagonist has one they need to work through for character development). But instead of gradual self-awareness, she remained stubbornly convinced she was in the right, even when it was glaringly obvious to the reader that she wasn’t.
That said, the male lead was a cute grump, which added some charm to the story. He balanced out the main characters antics and kept me turning the pages despite my frustrations.
