LIKED:

  • My favorite part of this book was the discussions of breast cancer, diagnoses, etc. It was written with a lot of intentionality and added so much to the FMC's storyline and character arc.
  • The overall premise of this book is interesting, with her boyfriend breaking up with her and not telling anyone and then dying. Fun stuff, I tell ya.
  • The Minnesota setting was nice. There just is something about MN that makes for a good romance setting, ya know?
  • Karissa Vacker is so unbelievably skilled as an audio narrator.
  • I like this cover. It's simple and sweet. The title I'm meh on, but the cover is good.

LAMENTED
:

  • Okay, so I listed to 76% of this book and realized...nothing had happened. I mean, yes, things had happened. But there was soo so little plot and I felt like I had genuinely missed something entirely. But...I hadn't? It just seemed like things were going in circles. I'm normally fine with vibes, but this one just didn't not stick for me.
  • I found both of these MCs a bit lacking, mostly because I think they lacked a bit of depth or layers or some kind. I just wanted a bit more from each of them that filled them out a bit. And their connection just seemed kind of...boring.
  • In the same way that I really liked the BRCA rep, it also became TOO much of the FMC's character. I wanted more for her to be than her diagnosis. And I know that was a big part of her arc and the story. But she ended up just feeling a bit flat.
  • The side characters were grating. Mara was alright, but Chelsea and What's-his-name were just too cariacture-y for my tastes.

LONGED FOR
:

  • More...meat on the bones of this book.
  • More meat on the bones of the characters.
  • Less meat on the bones of the side characters.

Will I read the next one?
: I have her next book as an ARC, so yeah. It looks cute.

This book was a delight to read, it was full of killer banter, lots of laughs & chemistry. The narration was FANTASTIC! The story follows Alison, a woman who briefly dated a wild, adventurous man (Sam) shortly before he passed away. Alison recently underwent preventative cancer treatment, and that's made her feel like she needs to do more with her life - even if being adventurous is the last thing she wants to do. While attending her ex's funeral, Alison discovers that he never told his family that they broke up. They all believe she's his grieving girlfriend, and Alison doesn't have the heart to correct them. In fact, she soon finds herself volunteering to help clean out her ex's place, and that's how Alison ends up spending four weekends with her ex's best friend. Adam is even grumpier and more set in his ways in person but there's something about him that is appealing.to Allison. As the two box up their mutual friend's belongings, they discover a connection that neither anticipated.

What I wasn’t a fan of. 3rd act breakup Went from lust to dropping the L-bomb WAY too fast
