Detective Massu had a plan to besmirch Marcel Petoit’s image in the paper, but unfortunately, Mr. Martin printed a different front-page story. Massu is going to have to find a new approach to capturing his suspect. A missing person’s alert in the paper convinces him to head back to the morgue.

Meanwhile, Jodkum is being questioned about S.S. personnel by a character we haven’t been introduced to yet. Jodkum claims Massu is his contact and is executed immediately after. We move back to Massu, as he looks at the missing person’s body in the morgue and sees similar evidence to Petoit’s previous murders, he figures out where Petoit is. Once he is about to leave, he is arrested due to Jodkum’s testimony. He orders Bernard to get his mother and contact Dupin.

The last few pages show Madame Delphine enter the taxidermy store where the missing person worked, and Petoit greets her and welcomes her inside. This is a very suspenseful ending! The only problem I have with it is that I can’t remember if we know who Madame Delphine is. I feel like we are supposed to know, so I’m frustrated that I don’t. Will the detective and his son save the day? Guess we will wait to see.
