Wasn’t really a book, but I’m glad I got to read Cinder’s backstory!

This was the prequel to Cinder and this little short story shows how Cinder came to live with the Linh family.
Eleven-year-old Cinder has to suffer because she is part human, part cyborg.
Adri and Pearl are terrible to her from the beginning, only Peony is a small little whirlwind that becomes friends with Cinder immediately, without prejudices.
It is heart-wrenching to see how badly she is treated because of being different, because of being part cyborg.
It was a nice and quick novella and it made me fall in love with Cinder even more.

Looks like I only got part of it online, and I borrowed Stars Above from the local library to read the rest.
Most of this was covered in Cinder so there is little new information but it was nice to read the whole incident in one go from Cinder's perspective instead of bits and pieces as in the book.

This story was interesting, and I liked learning about Cinder's early days with the Linh family. It was great reading more about Peony too, and why Cinder became a mechanic.

Short, but packed with emotion. I only wish it wasn't becoming something of a trend for authors to release little halfway stories like these. Why not just do some editing and work them into your novel...? Cinder could have benefited from this being the prologue.
