I was dying for this book to come out, it was a highly anticipated read for me but it did not blow me away like I had hoped. His books are pretty hit or miss for me. This one unfortunately didn’t live up to the expectations I had hoped for.

“I’ve grown accustomed to those dark, quiet hours in the middle of the night, when it feels like I’m the only man in the world not asleep.”

“He is in a tent. In his own backyard. Completely alone. But when he went to sleep the night before, there had been someone else with him. Someone now gone.”

“There are ghosts everywhere, if you just know where to look.”

Riley Sager definitely knows how to write a captivating novel full of twists and thrills. Middle Of The Night was both a slow burn but also one that held my attention throughout. He created a great main character who teeters on the edge of unreliable but very likable. I especially liked how he wrote a book that is part thriller, part mystery, part coming of age (loved the 90’s setting), little a little bit of horror and supernatural throughout. Only Simone St. James does that better.

Middle Of The Night has many, many red herrings that will keep you both guessing and switching up your theories throughout. One of the big twists I guessed and seemed obvious if you read enough of books. But it is well done and essential to the book. The big reveal, though, I didn’t guess (there are other small reveals that I also didn’t guess but at one point I had considered before switching my theories several times!) and the reveals were very satisfying. Knocked off a star because of the Ragesh character, which was the worst part of the book and was poorly written or believable.

Looking forward to the next Riley Sager book.

Definitely kept me interested, but there were a few plot holes and things I wish the author would’ve expanded on more!
