Loved the world building and characters in this, just bit of a lacklustre ending, wish it went more into the Hawthorne Institute storyline. I really lvoed where I thought it was going the first 3/4 but yeah not my favourite ending. Still very fun read

Updated: After talking about this book with my mom I realized it is a one star book for me. There are several things that occur that are NEVER explained. It clearly was meant to throw the reader off but it feels like a cheap shot that meant nothing.

All right, I know that I said with my previous read of this authors work that I was done reading their new releases. However, I ended up picking this one up because I had the audio available to me from the influencer program from libra.com.

I should’ve stuck with my gut and not picked this one up because I thoroughly disliked it. This had to have been one of the most boring books that I have read. We are following Ethan who 30 years ago had a sleepover with his best friend Billy in their backyard. When he woke up in the morning, Billy was gone and has never been seen since. Now 30 years later, Ethan is back in his hometown and staying in his family home. His parents have finally retired in Florida and he is there putting the house on the market and cleaning it up.

Pretty soon after he arrives odd things start happening. I use the word odd very loosely because really I had no reaction to these things that were happening. We get flashbacks to the day of Billy's disappearance intermixed with present day. Ethan goes about his daily life, but also reconnects with the people that live on his street. At no point in this book did it grab me but the authors writing is vert readable. I kept waiting something to happen or get interesting but it never happens.

I will not be picking up anymore even if I get free available to myself. I do think the cover is very catching. If you have never read any of this authors, I highly suggest looking into his backlist because some of those are fantastic reads. This one sadly was not for me and I have no one to blame but myself.

Thanks so much to libra for the advanced audio on this one. All opinions are my own.

Big fan of a Riley Sager thriller audiobook this summer.

3.5 ⭐️ Very entertaining story that was hard to put down! Out of all the Riley Sager books I’ve read, this one is definitely the most predictable. 7 books of Riley’s down, only 2 to go!
