lol ok so I’m watching the Book Troop’s live show on this and they are making so many valid points about all the plot holes and how many plot points went unfinished… I think I shouldn’t rate books when I’m on still on a readers high haha. I’d give this 3.5 now.

Riley Sager is one of my favorite authors, and I was fortunate to get to read an uncorrected proof version prior to publication.
That being said, it is not an easy one to rate.
The book kept me interested; going back-and-forth between today and 30 years ago with the same group of childhood friends that are now grown up and brought together in their old stomping grounds. It revolves around a missing boy and a mysterious complex nearby.
The first 70% of the book was just somewhat mundane character building. Things very much started happening the last 30% of the book, with lots of twists and revelations. Definitely not my favorite of his books, but not the worst either. It didn’t seem like his typical genre to me. I did have to roll my eyes at the attempt to make it diverse and appealing to the woke culture, which was totally irrelevant to the storyline. But anyway…. I’d say the first half was about a three star, the end was closer to a five star so I just went with a four star in the middle. It may be slightly generous, given that I was so excited to have another book by Riley Sager to read.
