In a detailed and sensitive manner, Sulaiman describes how Saba and Hagos handle the hard life in a refugee camp in Sudan. They live between hopes and fears, and even though Hagos is mute, they are able to communicate with each other through glances and touch. Together, therefore, they find the strength to fight against the traditional roles assigned to them.
With a distinctive writing style, Sulaiman manages to grab your attention. In the middle of the story, I sometimes found this drawn-out or over-detailed. But the beautiful tender sentences fully come into their own at the end. These are strong characters you care about, making it an interesting read. 7,5/10
