Finding a cookbook that I actually want to read is rare. Usually I just skip to the recipes that sound good and a lot of vegan cookbooks aren't all too inspiring to me (I eat meat, just not every day so I want veggie or vegan recipes that will really whet my and my partner's appetite. I'm excited to try some of the recipes in hear and will be seeking out Terry's other cookbooks as well.

But this book is more than just another cookbook, it's stories and inspiration from a man who is deep in the food justice and sustainability movement. He features menus inspired by family, spiritual leaders and activists complete with soundtrack, book and movie suggestions.

Many of these recipes take a couple of hours to make, but they are worth the wait!

I absolutely love The Inspired Vegan. I think the work Bryant Terry is doing in food and politics and among "minorities" is truly amazing. He is an admirable man doing admirable work and this cookbook, The Inspired Vegan is a fine example of his commitment to changing the way people eat, encouraging people to eat differently, and being as eco-friendly/responsible as possible.

I got this as an ebook, but it's so great that I also want the physical copy. I fully intend to refer to it in the future. The recipes all seem so amazing, I've only tried a few, but I plan to have them all. This is a great resource for vegetarians and vegans. I can't wait to get some of my friends reading it...I know they'll strongly consider vegetarianism once they see some of Terry's recipes. Also, the book is very user friendly and basic - just what I need. I'm still learning my way around the kitchen and I love that Terry does not omit any steps, like so many other authors, it makes me feel like he really cares that I get the recipe and get it so well that I feel comfortable remixing it in the future.

The music accompaniments are also another fabulous idea of Terry and shows just how interconnected he is as a man, father, husband, chef, activist, vegan, etc. He provided me with a great deal of music, film, and books to explore this summer.

I cannot fully express how amazing I think The Inspired Vegan: Seasonal Ingredients, Creative Recipes, Mouthwatering Menus is and I don't think I'll ever fully express the admiration I have for Bryant Terry. This is a cookbook I think everyone should have. I love it!

While he claims to have few or no hard to get items, his big city life comes through. The Asian market here didn't even carry all the items. And none of these recipes are "get it on the table quick."

Super politicized vegan cookbook. I could do with more recipes and less "instruction on how to be awesome like me, Bryant Terry". But Ida B. Wells limeade is pretty great. Also, I like his menu themes of "the motherland", "soul food" and "my Asian wife". Will I actually cook out of this book? Not sure...

Now THIS is more like it: a vegan cookbook that celebrates the food a vegan CAN eat instead of trying to make fake versions of foods a vegan can't eat (fake meat products, I'm looking at you -- what is the POINT???). All sorts of delicious menus, lots of recipes based in African-American cooking styles, some inspired by traditional African dishes, some Asian-inspired dishes here and there. He does menus and talks a lot about mindful eating, and he even throws in music suggestions at the beginning of each menu section. He also divides the menus into seasons, so you can figure out what's going to work based on what veggies should be in season and available -- we are supermarket people out of necessity where we live, so this will be huge. I'm going to be cooking from this one a lot.

Also Bryant Terry is sexy as hell. Which can't hurt.
