Arrancar Arc Rating

Wow wow wow wow - what a fight and what a conclusion. I truly wasn't sure how everything was going to go down so it kept me on the edge of my seat so see Aizen being....Aizen-the-all-powerful. Definitely a page turner of a volume!

The one where Aizen turns himself into a butterfly and is beaten in an honestly kind of anti-climatic way but you're willing to accept it because it means you survived the arrancar arc.

I’m finally caught back up to where I stopped reading this manga years ago. So bittersweet. I’m ready to see what happens though! I love Bleach so much

Omg finally, just when I thought Aizen would never die..

It’s hard to review this because this is the end of a very long arc. The title on the cover says a lot. God is Dead. It’s the final battle between Ichigo and Aizen. Gin has some things of his own he wanted to accomplish but it’s best to say no more there. As before, the mangaka has left a lot of interesting character tidbits to the very end. I had no idea Gin and Rangiku had any past relations (though as long as this series is I could have forgotten). For that matter there is some truly humanizing moments for Aizen as well but it still feels too little too late story telling wise.

Ichigo has learned from Zangetsu, the final form. His battle with Aizen is how battles should be done. It wasn’t just endless fight scenes. There was some truly interesting stuff in there. I’ll let you read for yourself how it all shook out.

If I didn’t know there was more to this series, I would have considered this a good stopping place. Not the one I would have hoped for mind you. But there is more and I’m curious where and how it’s going to move forward. Many of reviews of the volumes in the forties were not very favorable until the two before this. As with any long series you can get bad, or at the least, not very interesting moments. This arc ended on a high note. Now, unlike just a few volumes ago, I DO care if the library gets more. Also, I’ve never thought Ichigo was all that attractive until the long hair he had from all the thousands of hours of suspended time. Woot. One thing though, they made such a point of Ichigo not seeing Aizen’s sword when the battle began a few books ago but it never seemed to really manifest in the story telling. Did I miss it?

Gin.....
adventurous challenging dark emotional lighthearted mysterious sad tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I really liked Gin's plot twist, the brutality of Aizen, and the impeccable visuals with Ichigo.
However,
the only person to die in this crazy ass arc is Gin? Really?!? Along with that, as usual, Ichigo just appears and kicks the villains ass.
Overall, if I wasn't determined to read all of the big three, I'd be done with this whole series. But here I am.
