I really loved this book! I think I liked it even more than the first book! I loved seeing more into the medical training of the 1800s and especially looking into the history of c-sections (maybe don't read this if you are pregnant). I loved Dr. Marenco and Julia in this book especially. There are a lot of sad parts but overall a lot of happy endings! I do wish that we had a more fulfilling ending. I wanted to maybe see a little bit into the future and figure out where all of our favorite characters landed! Very little language and no spice. There are some pretty intense illness/surgical scenes - many regarding births.

Slightly slow paced. Would like more conclusions, unless she is just setting up for 3rd book...

Simply put—-I couldn’t put it down.
I had enjoyed book one and then stumbled onto book 2. And i loves it just as much. It’s brilliantly written and makes you shake your mental fist at the situations that Nora was dealing with and cheer when wrongs get corrected.

We take it for granted the fight women had to practice medicine. Who tried illegal techniques and won. Things commonplace now were life/death then.

Highly recommend these books for a dive into history and the life of a woman who fought against the world for her chance to heal.

I read the first book in this series, “The Girl In His Shadow,” and I absolutely fell in love with the characters, the story, and the history. I had no choice but to get the second book, “The Surgeon’s Daughter,” the day I finished the first and I devoured it. I absolutely loved this series, easily my favourite read of the year! Definitely a new favourite that I look forward to eventually rereading.
