I enjoyed it, but tags and descriptions are absolutely misleading. This book deals with heavy topics and I have no idea where the "funny" part is. Very emotional, well written, and hopeful, but I honestly think there should be more content warnings and even without spoilers better blurbs.

I felt as if this book started EXCEPTIONALLY slow and I found that so difficult because of how unlovable the narrator comes off, but the narrator goes through so much character growth throughout the story that it makes up for how slow the beginning of the book felt.

I really enjoyed this book and think it will stick with me for a long time. I picked it up not really knowing what to expect. It was much darker than I anticipated but ultimately very hopeful. Eleanor is flawed but that’s what makes her so lovable. Very few people have a past as challenging as Eleanor’s but I did still find her and her story relatable which I think speaks to how well written it was. I’m very happy I picked this book up and would recommend it to anyone so long as they’re ok with the dark topics involved in the story.

i loved the character development and the discussions of mental health in this story. certainly didn’t expect abuse to play such a big part.

A very smooth read, quite gripping, didn't take too long

Pros:
- the writing flowed nicely and made it easy to read. The dialogue always felt realistic and the story carried along nicely.
- it also had quite an original premise which was executed well and I got caught up in seeing how it would all turn out.
and I'm glad it turned out well

- the side characters, Raymond, Laura, Bob, etc. were all well developed and made it feel like a little slice of life.

Cons:
- Didn't really love Eleanor (though the name didn't help) and while feeling vaguely bad for her, i definitely didn't 'sob and sob' like the one reviewer did. Some bits did hit too hard and just made me feel bad. The tone really reminded me of 'A man called Ove' and it was given to me by the same person. Unfortunately I don't think I'm a massive fan of this type of book really - the reality is too painful for me, too personal.

So I think my main disappoint was that I didn't feel much for the book and I won't be reading it again I'm afraid, though it was good for a break after the complicated 'Ninth house' book.
