I didn’t realize when I decided to read this that it was middle grade. I am not sure if that is the intended, but it is definitely on the younger side of YA. Given that I give it 4 stars for the age group. Michael Scott does a great job at creative and inventive world building as well as working in famous real life characters (such Shakespeare and King Tut) into the story. I am interested to see where the story will take us next and will sprinkle this series in as time allows.

So unique premise... I loved the battle at the huge tree at the end. Flamel is so mysterious.

Don't listen to Deanna, this book is actually awesome.
I think it's an excellent choice for kids who started off reading Harry Potter but maybe the later books have a bit too much violence and stuff for them.

Good enough that i'll be checking out the sequel but so far nothing mind blowing. just a nice read. which most days is all i ask
This book was okay. It was a little on the young side and predictable for me but I otherwise enjoyed it. I am hoping that the next one is better.
