ok Novik, i concede you thought this series out pretty well. the plot doesnt feel like it was just shoehorned into the third book, like it was there all along. overall it was fun, and sometimes you need abit of fun.

though, i would be glad to not listen to Novik write a sex scene again (even a very vaguely described one). its not her strong suit. they were inoffensive but clunky and pretty awkward imho

I’m still processing..not the ending I was hoping for, but still enjoyed it?
adventurous dark emotional sad medium-paced

Ultimately I think the author was really successful in wrapped up the series but I was consistently surprised by how many new concepts she introduced. The magic is fun and the plot is very fast-paced.

1,115 pages (all three books) of El’s whining.

Yes, I liked the story. No, I still don’t like El.

I love Naomi Novik, but I hope this series is complete.
tense slow-paced

This was a struggle for me to get through. I am glad I kept with it as I did enjoy the ending overall. I really am not one for long-winded tangents, which this had in spades. I didn't particularly care for it in the first two books either, but the setting in the school and the premise had me enjoying the story despite that aspect. In this one, we get 200 pages of El whining and lamenting over the events of the last book while making it all about her. A lot of the long-winded tangents were exactly that, and I seriously considered DNFing this book. I was intrigued enough that I kept pushing through. I also thought that there was a lack of focus on what exactly the conflict was, but it all comes together and makes sense in the end. I found all of the books to be unnecessarily complex, but it is also just part of the magic system, and I just kind of went with it. While I liked the ending overall, I wish there had been some sort of justice and not everyone just getting to continue on. It wasn't very satisfying for me.

Wow, what a stellar finish to one of my favorite trilogies. This book felt a lot different than the first two, but I absolutely loved it. Very intense and dark and horrifying and absolutely wonderful. Very complex. I loved everything about it
