This book was awful. It was boring and every single characters was all two dimensional. I kept reading because I though, for sure, something will happen soon, but even the climax was boring.

I genuinely could not tell the entire time I read this book if I liked it or hated it and it never became clear even by the end

I really enjoyed this - light & amusing but not fluffy or brainless. Try the next one by this author

Funny book about the private schools in NY. I did like her second book more

I’m probably overinflating my rating, but this book struck me in a very similar way as My Year of Rest and Relaxation. I started it, rather skeptically, and not that surprised by the low community rating but then after the first third of the book, I couldn’t put it down. I mean, sure, it has a general vibe of a chick lit book in the sense that there’s a fish out of water girl who’s getting over a guy and pulls her life together, but only in the sense that chick lit was the black and white portion of the Wizard of Oz and this was the technicolor. Keep in mind that I’m writing this immediately after finishing so I am on a high.

Time will tell whether this book will actually stick with me. I was scrolling through my read books to find when I had read MYoRaR, and found a few books that I’ve totally blanked on the plot. I gave them a score and a review. I read the summary. Nothing. However...I’m hoping this is similar to the aforementioned experience, a similar one I had with Emotionally Weird.

Each and every character seemed to light off the page, like you knew them, although admittedly I am very far from New York/East Coast culture. Kate’s depression, everyone’s frustration with it, every single main character appropriately flawed (supporting characters were perhaps a little flatter, but supportive in a way that I would hope my husband is. Like Doug, bless his heart.)

I wanted to like this much more than I did. In general, I liked the writing style, but I couldn't get past how obnoxious I found several of the characters. Kate, the protagonist, is interesting, but her friends are a giant pain in the ass. Her ex is a French stereotype complete with ridiculous accent. (Dear all authors: please stop writing in French accents. We can imagine it.) All in all, I liked it, but those gripes kept me from loving it.
