Short Summary: A group of individuals set out on a scientific expedition to uncover the mysteries of an alien race but along the way, an alien presence makes itself known and the group is fighting for their lives while trying to figure out if this is the same alien presence that they sought.

Thoughts: This novella has an impressive concept but the wide cast of characters that went without proper development and the strange focus on the sex lives of these 9 individuals was needless and I would’ve much preferred more details on the mysterious alien race instead.

Verdict: Nightflyers is a very unsettling little read and I’m very much looking forward to the visual aspects of bringing this novella to life on the small screen.

This is not a GREAT story. It is a decent story, maybe even good.
The story is ressonably easy to read and comprehed for the adult reader, but lacks background and motives to several characters, though it follow patterns and is true to characteristica to both the science fiction genre and the horror genre.

Overall 3/5 (I liked it fine)

Elevator Pitch:
In the far future, a ship captained by a mysterious recluse takes a crew in search of the mysterious volcryn. As the journey continues, frightening events happen with more regularity.

Specifics:
Really strong opening paragraph. Short and sweet. Really frightening. Gorgeous illustration. Some of the stuff was sci-fi-y to the point of cringe for me, but other than that, not much to say.

Fast paced Sci-fi/Horror story that reminds me of Event Horizon without the demonic influence. Kept me entertained, I wish there was more to understand about this world though. I feel like this could be a side story to a very interesting Sci-Fi series if Martin desired. I'd love to know more about the alien species described in the book as well as how humanity got to where they are. Otherwise, this is an entertaining book that is easy to finish and I found myself wanting more by the end.

This was way too fast paced and short. The story gave you no time to care about anything at all. The characters were boring and for some reason, even while people around them are dying, they still are constantly horny. Sex and nudity was pointless yet Martin always feels the need to include it. He just likes to make sure the women in his stories are naked or sexual. It is really weird and frankly many times cringey. Every time I thought, "wait, but why?" The whole book was a waste of my time.
