This may be an unpopular opinion, but to me, this is the weakest book in the series. I did enjoy the story, but it felt like the first book again, with more characters. A pro is that we find out more about Constance Contraire. We learn about her past and how she became a part of the Mysterious Benedict Society.  I would recommend this book to fans of the series who are interested in learning more about Constance. It might even become your favorite book in the series.

I read this one to my 14-year old son, who gives it 3 stars. If it was just me, I probably would've stopped reading it early on. He and I had read the first one, and he suggested we continue the series. It wasn't until halfway through that I realized this was the THIRD title, not the second. The good news is our lack of knowledge didn't affect our understanding of this story. Also good news, after reading the third one, we both agreed to not read the second, or any more of them.

The kids become embroiled in another long and involved adventure, with plenty of close calls and brainstorming of ideas. All of their powers seem to have increased, some of them to an extreme (and annoying) level.

My son enjoyed pointing out the plot holes. I enjoyed watching him enact the facial expression descriptions (of which there are many) of the various characters.

Strong fans of the series may enjoy this, but I found it too long, dull, and convoluted. Constance is a real PIA, but Milligan still rocks.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars

It had been quite awhile since I read the second book in "The Mysterious Benedict Society," series, so I was a little worried that I wouldn't remember enough of what happened in the last two books to understand and enjoy "The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner's Dilemma". Thankfully I did and thankfully the author helped us readers by reminding us of certain events and details that had happened in the previous two books.

This book was so fun! Kate, Sticky, Reynie, and Constance are a little bit older in this one and as such their adventures were just a little bit more complicated. I really loved seeing them grow and learn as they solved new clues to try and take down Mr. Curtain and his minions once and for all. I'm excited to see how much more they have all grown in the next book, when they are teens/ young adults!

I only have one miniscule complaint about "The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner's Dilemma,"-the ending. It happened so quickly, and if I'm honest, was just a bit anticlimactic. That didn't at all ruin the book as a whole for me, though!

I'm so glad I'm reading this series! Don't let the fact that "The Mysterious Benedict Society" is marketed as a children's book keep you from reading it. It truly can be read and enjoyed by all ages!

My plot problems with Perilous Journey are gone, replaced by an actually fairly interesting plot wherein the kids and the Whisperer are being protected from the bad guy up until one of them manages to run off and Bad Guy breaks in and steals the Whisperer, and the other three kids are left to fix this situation. And, awesomely, the evil genius bad guy actually uses some of that genius to totally screw the kids over. Awesome.
