The plot line is good, if a little raw and childish. I did enjoy reading this book and indeed the series, but unfortunately James Patterson's writing is fairly immature and his characterisation is less than excellent.

I just want to say that if this hadn’t been for my friends bookclub then I wouldn’t have picked this up. Way back when this series was still new, I remember reading the first two and kinda liking them in a passive, “that was an interesting book” way, but I wasn’t obsessed. I thought Fang was cool but overall nothing stuck with me. The same goes for me now in 2019.
The writing? Mediocre and cheesy. The characters? Quirky names but little substance. The action? Predictably repetitive. And the freakin TWO PAGES chapters are nothing more than a way for Patterson to move through a lot of scenes without thoughtful transitions.
I know I’m not the target audience for this book, but it doesn’t change the fact that very little about it is well done. It’s not horrible, and it’s not boring, but....it’s also not good. I definitely skim-read the last 25 pages out of sheer boredom and desire to be done with it.
PS- apparently JENNA MARBLES is an executive producer for the 2016 film adaption of this?!? 😳

James Patterson is a fanatically popular adult author, who I have never read a word of. He has now ventured into the teen market, and I wish that I hadn't read this, either. That being said, The Angel Experiment is extraordinarily odd story of Max and her group of friends. They have escaped from a hellish place called The School which is a lab that runs gruesome testing on humans. The book follows the group as they fight evil and attempt to save the world. It is adventure and science fiction and fantasy all rolled into one, and I can see how it would appeal to many teens. Patterson's writing is easy to race through, the language is very fluid. I like the fact that the main character is female, because there are alot of female teens that are fans of this genre. I, however, am not. Patterson doesn't make you think, and some of the storyline was just too bizarre for me. For example, the main character has 2% bird DNA. A bit too much for me!

Pleasantly surprised, the narrator is great, I'll be getting the rest of the series.

I. Loved. This. Book. These kids are so different than any other kids I've read about in a fictional book. They are so brave to fight against the people who took them away from their parents, from normality and added avian DNA into them and added wings to their body. This is also so original for an author to create a story about six runaway half human, half avian kids. I believe this series will be one of my favorites and I will probably be heartbroken when it ends.

A nice escape from heavy fiction.

I had heard about this book from around the internet and my cousin. All i knew about it was it had people with wings. Since i don’t ever want to read Acotar i figured this could be a substitute. I didn’t like the book that much. I loved the concept but the Erasers and the fact that the main characters were young and i mean young. I cant picture them going around the country and not anyone noticing unaccompanied minors. Ari character was a mess, he was turned into an eraser and was what? 7? I know trauma and stuff changes a person but for me it would have been more convincing if he was older. As well at thre main characters. I cant imagine anyone in the main group being that intelligent. Things got even more confusing by the end of the book when Max kills Ari. It’s annoying to try to keep up with the story and if the things i’ve said isn’t enough, the author throws in the Voice for max and for me at least it didn’t make since to add that into the story. I have also heard the book was made into a movie, i watched the trailer and they of course did an awful job with the CGI wings. Im reading the second book in Uglies by Scott Westerfeld and i have my expectations set incredibly low because the last sequel i read in a popular YA book series was awful.

The reason why I could not give this book a 5 star review was because of the way the book was narrated.

I realize this was a book for TWEENS, not TEENS, the narration of this book was truly lacking in... sophistication. Maximum, the narrator and main character was not someone I would enjoy listening to for another book, but even though, I did enjoy the story line, I did not like the way it was written.

The story centers around Maximum and her friends who are mostly human with avian genes mixed in, because of scientific experimentation.

Which to me, sounded pretty interesting. There were a few parts where this book was lagging in places, although the majority of it was pretty fast paced.
