It's all happening! :D
The first few chapters of Cult of Personality were legit the sweetest thing I've ever read. The banter between Malcolm and Seong-Jae was so on point and, after all the previous novellas and the slow burn of their relationship, it was so satisfying to read about them finally just!! being!! with each other and having important conversations about what they wanted.
Kudos to Cole McCade for writing a beautiful and understanding scene about both of them talking about consent and always checking in with each other <3
I didn't expect to learn a little more about Seong-Jae's past, but I'm really glad we got more tidbits about his life and what he's been through. His backstory is such a mystery and I do appreciate the slow reveal McCade is building to here. It just made me even more curious about certain subplots and how they tie together.
I will say... the investigation here didn't really do it for me, though? I didn't find it as engaging and well developed as the ones in the previous novellas. The religious aspect was interesting, though, even with the predictable twist at the end. And the final chapter?? Filled me with anxiety lol

I thought it would get boring.. ummm nope! i thought wrong, it gets better with each episode. GAAAAAHHHH!
I am happy that the case did not get overshadowed by the cutesy moments. Me is satisfied. The case was another one with the cray cray hiding behind bible. Ugh! I dislike those with a passion.
These guys talk things out! That is the other best part of this series. I dislike unnecessary miscommunication. I am all for, when you have something to say, say it! or when you want to ask something, ask! don't go sulking for no good reason. I am so happy!

The writing.....
The Kissing.. ASSSDDKLGJHHLLLKG!! Mal and Seong-Jae love to kiss and i love reading about my guys kissing..
Malcolm was growling, fingers tightening in Seong-Jae’s hair. Seong-Jae smiled to himself…and sealed their mouths together, stealing deep, languid tastes of Malcolm’s mouth, twining their tongues together and tasting him until their lips grew so slick, so hot, that each time they parted and came together again their flesh met with the quietest of damp sounds, sweetly suggestive of other things and barely heard.

The Cuddling.... GAAAH!

The sex scenes are hot, dirty, rough, tender with some smoking hot biting.. Double GAAAAH!!
Sila gives me the creeps.
Mal and Sade...

This is one friendship that should never be messed with, or i will start cutting...

Seong-Jae made that soft “tch” sound…but then crushed his mouth to Malcolm’s. Quick and hot enough to take Malcolm’s breath away, a thing of irritation and vengeance and clashing heat, and he groaned as he let himself be overwhelmed, breathing in that scent of diesel and smoke as Seong-Jae practically punished him with bites and vicious strokes for the crime of actually wanting him.
GAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!

First off, I don't know if it was just my ebook version but there were several typos and missing words in this book. I also don't even know why we still need a new big case every book when the resolution is always so superficial. It's not particularly engaging when the suspects are immediately obvious and we readers know more because of this unnecessary first chapter.
Also, if they don't talk about blue and green eyes in the next book, I'm going to rage quit the series. I hate miscommunication and not communicating as plot devices. And come on, we're establishing this big villain as being able to predict everything, have his hand in every single case, just to "make him clean again". I'm just not really here for it. I'd rather read more about the relationship and singular, interesting cases.

"You actually like me," he ventured, and Malcolm smiled, eyes crinkling at the corners.
"Yeah. Yeah, I do."
"Why?"
"If I tried to list the reasons, you'd punch me before I got to three."
This series gets better and better with every book.
I thought my heart would explode with Where There’s Fire, but Cult of Personality went so much harder – and by that, I mean cuter.
After Malcolm and Seong-Jae slept with each other at the end of the previous book, I thought this book would have them ignoring one another and pretending that the night they spent together didn’t happen.
I can’t tell you how excited I was to be wrong.
Not only do Malcolm and Seong-Jae talk about their complicated relationship, but Malcolm refers to Seong-Jae as his ‘boyfriend’. I think Cole McCade killed half of his readership with that scene.
Reading these two men getting closer to one another and opening up about things they’d never told anyone else before was so touching. Seong-Jae reveals something from his past to Malcolm, and that entire scene is portrayed with so much respect – although I would expect nothing less from McCade.
The case Seong-Jae and Malcolm work on was just as disturbing as promised. There’s just something so unsettling about cults and cult-mentality to me, but mix that in with toxic masculinity, and you’ve got something truly horrifying. McCade is probably one of the only authors I trust to write such disgusting criminals because you 100% know they’re going to get their comeuppance. These criminals are never glorified, and McCade makes it very obvious that he’s aware of the surrounding social and cultural issues in reality, through Malcolm and Seong-Jae.
Cult of Personality was an incredible book to an already stellar series. I am dying for the next book. Is it Feb 10 yet?

This was a bit of a short book, and I think the mystery aspect really suffered in consequence of that; a cult actually sounds super interesting, but the way it was done felt a bit rushed and underwhelming. On the other hand, I can't give it a bad rating when I nearly cried out of pure affection for how adorable Mal and Seongjae are, and just how happy I was to see them communicating and trusting each other. I feel like after six books of angsty pining, we deserved to have at least some fluff to make up for it, and this book provided it.
