I loved seeing the development of Queen Amidala and her handmaidens. There is so much more to them then we get to see in TPM. I definitely want to rewatch the movie after reading this book.

Set before and during the events of “The Phantom Menace”, EK Johnston’s “Queen’s Peril” outlines Padmé’s life as she navigates the beginning of her reign as Queen of Naboo. It goes into detail as to how the handmaidens are chosen and how they come together to create the seamless team that we see in the movie. The relationship between Padmé and Sabé, her most trusted bodyguard is the main focus of this novel, however the other handmaidens with their distinct personalities have a chance to shine as well. In addition we get points of view from many other characters which just adds to the richness of this story. 3/5 stars for a super solid read (I would have rated it 4 out of 5 had it been told entirely from the girls POV and 5 out of 5 had we seen more of Padmé’s thoughts during the events of the first movie.
