Queen's Peril

E.K. Johnston

3.95 AVERAGE

The beginning of the novel about the formation of the handmaidens and Naboo's internal politics is great, but the last third of the book dips into TPM, all of which we have, for the most part, seen already (with the exception of some details about what each handmaiden was up to). This made the ending feel rushed, with nothing much to add to the canon of Star Wars

This novel takes place shortly before 'A Phantom Menace' as well as a bit during closer to the end. It was a bit scattered but I did like how it showed everything Padme's handmaidens had to do for their job. The story itself was a bit on the dull side with nothing in the way of big events that would change my perspective of the Star Wars universe as I knew it, which I always hope for from these canon novels.

Despite the title that implies a single "queen" it's actually about and from the point if view of Padme (queen elect) and her handmaidens (decoys/bodyguards) + the social dynamics within the group. It was interesting what going through the minds of the "Queens" before + during the events of "Phantom Menace" + background on who these hand maidens are and why were they chosen.
