I liked it short quick read. Good but nothing special. Highly recommend the audiobook!
Really enjoyed this book. It has a very intimate look on some of the main characters in TPM around the time where the galactic conflict started in the prequel era. Absolutely loved how EK Johnston developed both the team and Padmé and each individual handmaiden while never loosing sight of the bigger conflict around them. It really adds to the movie in ways I was not expecting and to Queen’s shadow! I just wish it would have been a little longer.
Also, the parallels between the prelude and the epilogue will break your heart.

been waiting super long to finally be able to read this, i love padmé and seeing her in the clone wars series made me admire her diplomacy and strength (also seeing that palpatine found her as a major threat to his plans). this book is a prequel to queen's shadow and was released after it but since i planned to read the books chronologically, i started off with this. not sure if it was a good or bad decision, i'll only know after i read queen's shadow. i really loved this book, it showed padmé's perseverance from a young age but we also got a glimpse of her child-like-ness which we never saw in the movies seeing as she had to grow up so fast to deal with everything that was going on. i loved seeing names and personalities behind the handmaidens. also seeing padmé pining after sabé was cute. i was sad that this book included the plot of tpm, i expected more of a backstory for padmé and also more of her as queen, but alas palpatine took this all away from her and she had to handle a trade blockade just slowly after becoming queen. the monarchy of naboo is also interesting to me, seeing as it is some sort of a democracy (honestly no idea about politics but i always saw monarchies as something passed on generations). i did like how we saw more of sabé pov of tpm tho, since we watched most of it through anakin and padmé's eyes. also i liked the different characters thrown in as well, maul was brilliantly written and we got to see some of palpatine's thoughts/scheming. also liked the hint towards relationships with nobility that qui-gon mentioned to obi-wan, i'm a sucker for obitine. also the line 'it was after all important to avoid absolutes' did made me giggle out loud. i was sad throughout the book just because it felt bittersweet to see padmé before anakin, but i think the part that elicited the most tears out of me was the end scene being a parallel to the opening of the book. 'the girl in the white dress' being padmé and leia made me sob, and leia feeling comforted with being with her heroes of the rebellion. i overall loved it of course, i am definitely biased as it is hard for me to not like star wars simply because there is so much of it to like. i'm really excited to read queen's shadow just to see more of padmé.
It was fun. Not the best but interesting nonetheless. Great for Star Wars books beginners
THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING.
I love how Queen's Peril is written from another point of view than The Phantom Menace, meaning that not Anakin and the Jedi but Padmé and her handmaidens are at the center of the story. This gives more insight, not only into them, but also Naboo, its elections, its art etc and Captain Panaka and his wife!
As someone who loves The Phantom Menace and has watched it about a million times, this book is a quick and easy read (and an absolute joy). I do wonder if it doesn't get a bit confusing for people who haven't watched the movie though.
Apart from that, I loved EVERYTHING about it. I recommend it to all SW fans, but especially to the ones who fell in love with Amidala back in 1999.

I am a very, very casual Star Wars fan. I read this book to fulfill the need for a book that was shelved as "space opera" for a reading challenge. I think the novel is well written and I found it to be full of backstory and fairly interesting, but overall it was just not my cup of tea.

A Oceans 8 style collecting the handmaidens. Becomes a Lion King ½ of The Phantom Menace. Padmé might just be my favorite Star Wars character so I love reading more and more about her. This book brings some much deserved personality to the handmaidens and a little wholesome baby Anakin.
