got better as I went along

The world buildings in the beginning was a bit much and it distracted from the story at first. I liked the story overall!

Not her best

I really like most of May Sage’s books, so I was really excited when I got a notification that a new book was released.
This book, however, was a disappointment. I almost stopped reading a few pages in. There were too many new things introduced at once, with lengthy descriptions with lots of adjectives jammed in. It got better as I read on though.
I also feel that the book peaked entirely too quickly. There wasn’t nearly enough development of the character to explain the role that she takes near the end of book.
Finally, the majority of the book is told in first person from the perspective of Nevlaria, but the last chapter is told from the perspective of Drusk. The author doesn’t alert you to this, so it is very confusing and disorienting. To add onto that, the author doesn’t describe the why or how of what happens at the very end.

If there was a sequel, I would skim it just to see how things end.

Eh. There’s not much to say about this one.
This was an okay read, but I didn’t find it all that interesting. The pacing felt rushed and I didn’t connect with the characters much.
I probably wouldn’t bother with the sequel.

This was AMAZING! I haven’t been this engrossed in a book in a while. I loved the story, the world May Sage created and the characters. It was sooo good and I am now just dying for the next book. DYING! I need it.
