I’m not the target audience, more geared toward a younger audience (teens) or maybe folks going through a rediscovery moment. I can see this being helpful to some and it’s written like a conversation with a bff but I’m not at a place in my life where it lands well with me.

I listened to the audiobook while reading this and it was a wonderful experience! I love the way Lily narrates the book; it feels so intimate, like we’re two friends meeting up for coffee and a chat.

I really enjoyed the writing style. It’s so candid, so uncomplicated and easy to read, while also being extremely interesting and gripping and raw. I really admire Lily’s courage; it takes some serious guts to be so open about everything, especially about things such as eating disorders, abusive relationships, insecurities etc.

This book made me emotional, it made me take a step back and realize some things, it inspired me, it made me think. I’m honestly so glad I read it, and I’m grateful that such a book exists.

I feel like this is one of those books I’ll come back to whenever I need comfort or advice.
Lily is so strong and brave and genuinely lovely—a beautiful person inside and out. She’s a great role model and I admire her even more after reading this. I wish she were my friend.

TW: discussion of eating disorders/bulimia, discussion of drug addiction of partners, emotional and physical abuse and manipulation, discussion of HP (written 2017)

I sped through this book in two days and now here I am. If you think of reading this book do not expect anything grand with an incredible writing style because it is not. Lily Collins wrote this book in an easy to understand language and while she is maybe not the best writer she really got her message across.
She mainly discusses her biggest struggles in life - disordered eating and toxic relationships - and what she has learned from these experiences. She mentions it herself too, but I truly believe that this was a cathartic experience for her to really confront all these events of her teenage/early adult years.
I also believe it is very important to discuss matters of body image, eating habits, relationship advice and red flags with young people (and everyone really). Opening up like this was probably not easy at all and I really respect her for that.
Otherwise she dedicated a few chapters to motivational messages and basically says “be true to yourself.” I think these chapters broke up the tense topics well.
I enjoyed this quick read and would definitely recommend it for a fast but interesting read.
