The Lost Hero is a modern day spin on Greek mythology. It is a spin-off of the Percy Jackson series. As a teacher, I can see great possibilities with these books and teaching Greek mythology in a narrative, culturally familiar way. This book kept my interest the whole way through. The only problem...it is a series and only the first of that series! :(

Uncle Rick nails it! This is how you introduce the next chapter of an epic! The change in POV, the new characters, and the whole set up are fantastically executed. I cannot wait to keep reading.

I had been audiobooking these, but I cannot stand the narrators stylistic choices nor the way they pronounce certain  words and names. Unlike with the original Percy Jackson series, I’m not going to suffer it out this time. To physical copies I go!

This was just totally heartbreaking for me, because I'm used to start a Rick Riordan's book and devour it! And this book caused me a lot of trouble. The first few pages were super cool and I got hooked but then I continued reading and I lost interest. Then I tried to hear it on and audiobook and it satisfied me. Then I continue reading it and I got into a slump. But from the half of the book forward, I got completely excited and I finally devoured it.
And amazing story, I just don't know what happened. Maybe it was that I changed dramatically the genre. Or that it was a long time ago since I read the Percy Jackson's series. Whatever. The only thing that I regret it's not giving it the 5 stars it deserves but I can't lie to myself, I should have read it a long time ago. Still I'm in love with it.

I really enjoyed listening to this on audio, easy to understand all of the way some of the names were pronounced. I liked how this book was a kind of continuing of the Lightning Thief series.

There were only a couple things that I didn't like about this book.
1. It was WAY too long. Ii felt that the story could have maybe be cut in 1/3. I know the kids that liked the Percy Jackson series will probably still read this no matter the size it of it, it was just too long for me.
2. There were WAY too many different stories going on. At times, it was hard to keep track of because I got confused with names.
3. The story line kind of reminded me of the Lightning Thief with the different quests that they had to conquer and the people that they would meet. It was like quest, meet someone, quest, meet someone etc etc

I probably won't read on in the series but I will be interested in hearing from students that have read it.
