Dear god, what a depressing book. It's well written but I cannot ever imagine recommending it to someone unless I wanted to cause them emotional distress. I read it because it was on Obama's best books of 2022. I knew 2 chapters in that it would be depressing as hell but for whatever reason I tortured myself to read it to the end. Not sure I gained much out of this self torture though.

It’s haunting. Impeccably written and a really good book but I finished it feeling sick to my stomach with sadness and rage.

I was reading the audiobook and could not enjoy this book. It was not the book for me at all - it felt like it wanted so badly to be the Handmaid's Tale and it fell so short.

I’m very conflicted about this book and I expect my rating might change.

This is the first time I’ve finished a book and immediately wanted to remove it from my house which is interesting.

If you’re wondering if it is worth reading my answer is yes.

In a strange turn of events you find yourself agreeing with the one committing the end crime. This commentary on how inhumane, sexist, and racist our government can be truly makes you keep guessing if you can trust them to have the best interests at heart when race is involved (no.).

Interesting premise and easy read. Recommend it but something is missing to make it a great read
