I really struggled with the style of writing, not sure why, and found it a slog. I finished off the book by listening to the audio.

I think there was a good sense of period but the structure seemed to sap narrative drama from the piece, with the horrific crimes coming across as somewhat mundane. The telling of the women victim stories was interesting but nowhere as powerful as Hallie Rubenhold’s The Five.

I felt physically sick reading the first part of this book. I felt like there was an evil presence attached to it.

An informative read that lays out the stories of the victims in a way that shines a light on the plight of those less fortunate. The glamorization of the crime scenes, of the spectacle, are contrasted with the way the victims are tossed aside and discarded by society and blamed for their deaths and desecration. The addition of the two journalists who chronicled the story can be somewhat tangential, but the conclusion of their own tale serve to add to the oppressive atmosphere of death.

The new conclusion the author comes to is mentioned briefly at the end of the book, and something I wouldn't consider a strong point.
