I agree with other reviews that have stated that the book felt a bit lost on if it wanted to be a memoir or not.
I found it difficult at times to know if she was talking about herself or her friends. I also would have loved to know more about the manner in which she gathered the stories she referenced. Were these just people she knew?
All in all, I feel like I liked the book well enough to finish it. If I were to offer recommendations though, I think I would refer people to some of the books she references as opposed to encouraging them to read this book specifically.

The topic is so interesting and I was eager to hear how she broke down shame in the context of her own employment history, anecdotes from diverse populations, etc.
I became frustrated as full chapters seemed to be constructed only by quoting other people. I lost the authors' voice and couldn't tell why she was direct quoting so many books, social media posts and people as it didn't give me any clarity to her own thoughts and opinions -just distorted the cohesiveness of her writing.

I had a hard time maintaining focus on this book because It seemed like it could be much shorter. That said, I think the topic is important and am glad I read it.
