It’s about the pining and the longing. I wasn’t instantly won over by it but I loved it by the end.

The letter!
Oh God, the letter is the most romantic thing I've ever read!

This became quite moreish for me at the halfway point, but… nothing really happens? They literally just decide to get together at the end. Sorry, Jane… :/

there's nothing more I love than a man dramatically exploding into a powerful dialogue about how much he cannot live without the woman he has secretly been in love with for the whole book when the tensions become too high and god nobody does it better than Austin

Theres was not enough interaction between Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth. I expected more storyline concerning details about their history that would cause the reader to desire them to be back together.
Edited:
After disscussing this book in the class which it was assigned, I have decided to change my rating from 2 starts to 3.5. While I would not say this is one of my favorite Jane Austen novels I have a better appreciation for this novel in particular because it is very realistic in feelings and detail. At first I was disappointed because nothing majorly romantic occurred but thats because Austen places the feelings in small details between the Captain and Anne.

3.5 stars.
I did enjoy Persuasion, but I couldn't help but feel that it did not compare favorably to Pride and Prejudice. It did not age nearly as well, with the social commentary being rather more dated with respect to rank and quality of mind. I thought Anne occasionally came off as a snob, particularly in her feelings towards Mrs. Clay.
And the final conclusion that she was right to have been persuaded out of the initial offer of matrimony did not seem to be the right takeaway at all. That was her moment to assert that she would not allow herself to be swayed on matters of the heart again in the future, rather than that she was right to take her friend's advice all along. Very confusing messaging. I thought the book was supposed to be about how her weakness of mind in that decision had caused all of her unhappiness later.
Towards the later half, Anne also seemed to make excessive assumptions about how Captain Wentworth regarded her, despite not actually having any real evidence of his feelings. She turned out to be correct, but it still seemed rather big-headed of her.
Captain Wentworth, for his part, didn't make a good impression either. His claim at the end of always having loved Anne after spending the first half of the book courting someone else only served to lower my opinion of his character.
Overall, I think that Anne and Wentworth definitely didn't hold a candle to Lizzie and Darcy, but it's always enjoyable to read Austen's prose.
All the privilege I claim for my own sex…is that of loving longest, when existence or when hope is gone.

It was a sweet read. A little hard to get into, but I did like some of the quotes in there. Just a middle of the pack kind of book for me.
