I've wanted to read this for a while now, and I hated it. I think the writing was lovely... But the story is horrid and I sure am glad I live in modern times.
I think I'll try to read more Henry James, but it'll take a lot to not be overly annoyed at the depiction of women.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as other works I've read by Henry James, but I still very much appreciated his main character and his tone throughout. I would like to revisit this.
