This was such a beautiful and moving read. The haunting curse of the House of Atreus, and of Cassandra, weaves through the pages and the actions of these women. From Helen and Clytemnestra to Cassandra and Elektra, these mothers, sisters, daughters, both control the story and are helpless to watch as it unfolds. My heart broke for both Elektra and Clytemnestra in their grief but then worried as I watched them pursue vengeance above all else. Poor, unheard Cassandra, woven into this story by Agamemnon and his pride, to find peace in death at last. I found the scene between Clytemnestra and Cassandra so moving, as well as the epilogue as Elektra reflects on all that’s unfollowed. Jennifer Saint writes so beautifully!

my heart hurts a lot- this was so good. i love historical books told from the perspective of women as it’s so much more heartbreaking and genuine. cassandra and clytemnestra were my favourites and so interesting to read from the perspective of.
also, like… i know it’s based off of myths,, but i fucking hate elektra and she did not deserve to have a daughter of her own.

Beautifully written and captivating for the most part, but extremely frustrating at times when listening to a particular character’s perspective. However, I do think there is something to say about that being the author’s choice, as the cycles of trauma and violence that the women in this book result in each of them becoming metaphorically “uglier” than when they began. I think based on your own experiences, it’s is easy to empathize and relate to one or all of the narrators at one point or another. I did wish for more from Cassandra’s chapters, she felt like more of a plot movement device rather than an equal character on her own journey.
