A retelling of a classic story in Greek mythology but with an emphasis on 3 women’s perspectives. I thought it was very well done!
Similarly to other reviews, I think the title of the book is misleading because Elektra is more of a secondary character in this story except for the last 25% of the retelling but I thought the writing was still very good and it gave a good representation of what it was like to be a women during these times. Sure, it does repeat some of the same thoughts and sentiments over and over but I assume it was done so to emphasize the intentions, morals and thoughts of the main characters.

Anything related to Greek mythology instantly becomes a favourite in my eyes. A great retelling of the origin, duration and aftermath of the Trojan War and the house of Atreus. It covers curses, bloodshed and sacrifices, based entirely on the perspectives of three incredibly strong women who ultimately suffered dearly behind the hands of men. Although i do have to say while this book was titled Elektra, she happened to be my least favourite character in the book. I felt drawn to Clytemnestra, who avenged her daughter’s death in a gruesome yet cunning way. Only issues for me here were I did feel lost in certain parts during the war, and felt the pace shifted and dragged with certain parts. But still enjoyed this read albeit quite heavy and defo in need of a fun read now!

This book gave a voice to the women who might have been forgotten during the Trojan War. Cassandra, Elektra and Clytemnestra have fascinating stories and it was so nice to follow them. I liked the 3 POVs, I think they bring more insight into the characters. Elektra and Clytemnestra have a complicated relationship and it would be difficult with me to side with either. Their dynamic is not new and I think a lot of young women could see themselves in Elektra.
I also loved the writing! Sometimes when I read Greek retellings, I get confused with the amount of characters and things going on but the author did a great job! The character and event descriptions weren’t confusing at all. I would even say that the writing was quite beautiful. I am looking forward to read more things by Jennifer Saint!
