For most of the book, Elektra's role seems minor compared to the other key characters, Clytemnestra and Cassandra. But don't worry, you're in expert hands and by the end of the novel, you understand why Elektra is the titular character. The novel sits alongside the events of Homer's Illiad and, to a lesser extent, The Odyssey. Can these three women escape the destiny the Fates have decreed of unending violence?

I knew I wasn’t going to like Electra (because I knew the story going into this book), but this retelling of her makes her one of the most unlikable characters I’ve read in a long time.
Helen, Cassandra, and Clytemnestra (even Orestes was better) were described as complex and relatable, but Electra was just universally the WORST.

Elektra by Jennifer Saint revolves around the events of the Trojan war, told from the perspectives of three women,Clytemnestra,Cassandra and Elektra. They have different motivations and their lives change because of the events before and after Troy.
The author does a good job of weaving the story from three different narratives. The POVs of Clytemnestra and Cassandra provide a quite detailed picture of the events that impact their lives. Elektra’s POV gains a strong foothold in the latter part of the book. The agony of Clytemnestra and the frustration of Cassandra were portrayed very well in the book. I didn’t like Elektra’s character much and found it hard to sympathise with her but the way Saint portrayed the relationship between her and Clytemnestra was commendable.
The writing flowed very well and there was no choppiness when the POVs changed. Most of the times,I knew what was going to happen but it still felt as though my heart was in my mouth as I was reading which showed that the author did a very good job. Elektra showed a different side to the Trojan war, not focused on the male narrative which was a refreshing take.
I’ll probably be reading Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati after stewing on this a bit.
