Elektra

Ok. I did not love this, but I also feel like I’m coming off of reading two stronger books that share this same story (Clytemnestra and Song of Achilles).

1. I didn’t really understand why we followed three different narrators. I understood seeing this from both Elektra and Clytemnestra, but the addition of Cassandra did not make sense to me

2. I actually was the most interested in Cassandra’s story because it was a different side of this story I hadn’t heard yet

3. Yo Elektra SUUUCCCKKKSSS. I know her whole deal is that she’s obsessed with her dad, but like… GIRL. Your dad is horrible. AND, poor Georgios has to listen to you bitch about your family and wish you were her dad for literal decades even though he’s the nicest dude.

4. I was confused by the differences in the plot from this book to Clytemnestra. Tantalus is a completely different character which makes Clytemnestra’s motive way more single-minded, Cassandra’s killed by Clytemnestra instead of Aegisthus… I guess I’m wondering which is closer to the source material. Also in this one Helen actually is the daughter of Zeus rather than a daughter of Leda’s affair.

The book is called Elektra, but it’s barely about her, she’s also the most passive character I have ever seen. She does exactly nothing, she doesn’t achieve anything and she relies on others to do everything for her. The different perspectives on the troian war are interesting, but does nothing for the story of Elektra and Orestes.

Really sad to have not loved this, although loved reading Agamemnon’s story through women, it often felt rushed and wasn’t as descriptive as I’d liked

Its worse than Ariadne but its still a good book. Touches on troy and Hellen as well as Cassandra. Elektra however is just a part of the book and boy she is insufferable as ever.
