Black Witch Magic is a perfectly witchy contemporary. I tend to lean towards either fantasy or contemporary, so this contemporary with a fantastical element was right up my alley.
The story follows Selene, a witch who is cursed to live in a town that hates her, and Aiden, a paranormal hunter who doesn't believe in the paranormal.
Sparks fly when the two meet, but they seem doomed from the start. There's also a mysterious element that added to the overall vibe.
This was a fun, lighthearted read. Not much is going on beneath the surface, but you get exactly what you expect. The writing style bothered me a bit. I would be fully invested in the story and then there would suddenly be a weird sentence that was so random and jarring that I got pulled right out of the story.
Overall, it was enjoyable and I look forward to seeing where this series is headed.

Selene Blackstone is a witch working at her local library. Ever since her grandmother’s disappearance many years ago, the Blackstone women have been cursed in love and are forbidden to leave the town of Brimrock. Although the townspeople don’t know the details of the curse, they treat Selene like an outcast anyway.
Enter Aiden, a cohost on a paranormal hunters YouTube channel, whose been coerced by his friend Eddie to spend the holidays with his family in Brimrock. Aiden is the classic Christmas grinch, but he’s more than happy to spend his time researching the mysterious disappearance of Luna Blackstone instead. When chance puts Selene and Aiden together, magic sparks.
I enjoyed this romance! Selene and Aiden banter adorably and the mysterious circumstances that arise in the town kept me guessing until the very end. This is a great witchy read for the Halloween season or, could even be read in December when you’re missing All Hallow’s Eve since it’s set at Christmas.

First of all, thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved the enemies to lovers style romance and how realistic it was. Nicks did not paint the perfect relationship and I loved that. The romance between Selene and Aiden showcased the ups and downs of a real relationship. I also really enjoyed most of the characters, they were all loveable and relatable. I also loved that the main character was a mid-sized girl who loved herself. As a mid-sized girl myself, who rarely sees any representation in media, I was so happy to be able to see myself in a character in terms of body type. This was a cute magical read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Witchy books have been my new obsession and this one certainly met the mark!

Black Witch Magic is a book that I thoroughly enjoyed and I'm not even sure why I didn't get a proper review for it out when I read it in October. It was the perfect Christmas read. The characters were adorable, the romance was sweet and fun. But it wasn't light and fluffy, the mystery throughout kept me on my toes, it was really dark in places and the way Selene is treated by the community is downright horrible.
One of my favourite things about the book is that Selene and Aiden's relationship is so awkward in places. Like the second hand embarrassment was huge in places. And they get past hard spots with conversation. That is refreshing, I hate when things could be fixed with a conversation but it never happens. It felt a lot more real than many insta love scenarios, even with all the magic thrown in.

More of a 2.5.
I originally read this to 40% for Love in the Night (Paranormal Romance) Readathon but was underwhelmed. But decided I still wanted to finish it because I liked the premise. Maybe this should have stayed a DNF. It just never really got better.
This is about Selene and Aiden. Selene is a Black, cursed, lunar witch and Aiden is a white, paranormal investigator from a youtube like show. Aiden visits the small town with his best friend for the holidays. There is a little bit of a mystery to the book about Selene and the curse that was created due to her grandmother Luna. The romance was meh? I just felt like there was NO chemistry with these characters. They were insta-love but I didn't really figure out what they even liked about each other. And I was intrigued by the curse and mystery, but it ended up being really anti-climactic.
There's more to this series, but I don't think it's worth continuing for me.

I received an ARC from Netgalley and I am happy to give my honest review.
To be honest, this wasn't a great book. It was pretty disjointed and unrealistic. I skimmed through most of it because I couldn't get into the characters or their relationship. The best thing about the book was the unsatisfying sex they had the first time - you rarely see real sex scenes in romance books. I couldn't really believe that the whole town hated Selene for something she had nothing to do with. It felt like a super small town (1,000 population?) but really had 30,000 people... that is so weird for EVERYONE to know about and hate someone. I also struggled with the historical curse really only being 2 generations back. That's like 60 years. It would have been more believable to be 150-200 years ago, where there was some distance between the characters and the ancestors.
