It's spooooky season so anything with witch in the title, I'm prone to take notice of. The description of this story pulled me in and the characters kept me there! Selene is a witch with a family curse (the best kind) that renders her unable to leave her hometown and also makes her romantic life miserable. Enter Aiden- a cute, sarcastic ghost hunter who is in town for the Christmas holiday! They meet by happenstance and decide to give it a try. Selene tells him about the curse and they set out to overturn it. This book was so descriptive sometimes I felt like I was getting lost in the story and the adjectives, and I really wanted more magic! In the end, they lift the curse (extremely easily and almost casually) and make out a few times. There is one romance scene that gets halfway there for me- all in all, the making out was good enough for me! They investigate, lift the curse, and go out into the world to hunt ghosts together- sarcasm and magic make for a great relationship!

This was a pretty quick, entertaining read. I like the two leads Selene and Aiden and felt they had believable chemistry. The paranormal/ witch aspect was a bit hit and miss for me. Selene, Noelle and her aunt didn’t seem to know much about witches/ the supernatural considering they were witches ( how they didn’t twig that what happened to Peter was magic related didn’t make much sense to me). There were also a lot of references to the Blackstone family being held responsible for the strange going’s on in the town but after Luna disappeared the only Blackstone’s seemed to be Selene, her mum and the absentee uncle Zee . I feel the author could have expanded on the Blackstone family tree and the magical world a bit more and added other witches to the story/ town without taking away focus from Selene. Overall worth a look especially if you’re looking for a Halloween/Spooky read.

On the surface, this is a cute romance about a witch and paranormal investigator falling in love over the course of the Christmas and New Years weeks. However, under the surface, the way the town treats Selene and subsequently Noelle and Bibi, because they’re bad luck, witches, or just plain weird seems akin to the microgressions black and brown individuals experience in reality. Even the love interest, Aiden, needs some time processing the reality of dating a witch and the prejudice Selene faces. A similar process non-POC partners go through in interracial relationships.

Metaphor aside, the book was cute. The pacing was a bit off and it was more of a romance with some mystery in the background. It seemed a bit out of place because it was just random things happening instead of some mystery/suspense being sprinkled through out, it was jarring events happening randomly. It took a while for the book to really capture my attention, but once I got to know The characters, I was interested to see where the story would take me. I loved Noelle. She’s the best friend we all need.

Overall, I think Nicks wrote a cute book and I may read the next in the series in the future.

This was such an enjoyable, fast-paced read! It makes for a perfect transitional novel from Halloween to Christmas. I was pretty surprised the novel mostly took place around the holidays instead of Halloween, considering the cover, but I liked that. I enjoy books that are set in a small town and this was no exception. The feeling of coziness coupled with Christmas really put me into a wholesome and celebratory mood.

The pacing of the book was slightly too slow for me and there was not a lot of paranormal investigating until the halfway mark. The romance took up most of the novel but this did not deter me from enjoying it. The paranormal elements and world-building were really light because the romance was the focal point. So if you’re looking for a book that’s not too heavy on the world-building, this is the one for you.

I liked the chemistry and witty banter between Selene and Aiden. The communication between the characters was a breath of fresh air and I liked that I didn’t have to scream in frustration over miscommunication, which is pretty common in romance novels. However, I did find their romance to be a bit insta-lovey. They only knew each other for less than a month and Aiden was willing to choose Selene over his best friend of many years. I found that to be unrealistic.

Overall, I recommend it if you’re looking for a light, fast read with a sweet romance.

This was overall a very enjoyable read and I absolutely loved it. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started Black Witch Magic, but man was I very pleasantly surprised and blown away. It was such a cute and fun story that kept me completely engaged and immersed.

Selene and Aiden were adorable and I loved that they weren't the typical characters I read from fantasy books. They are a bit nerdy and I loved this aspect of them. They are both witty and the two of them together were amazing. I especially loved how relatable Selene was.

I also loved the other characters in the book and felt that they too were well rounded and not just after thoughts that can sometimes occur with side characters. I'm definitely excited to see what happens with these characters in the next book, for me especially Eddie and how his and Aiden's friendship will be affected. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good bromance.

While this isn't the typical action-packed, crazy adventure that I usually read in fantasy books, man, I couldn't help but love it. And while this is my first book Mila Nicks, it most definitely will not be my last. I'm very eager to continue this story and hate that I have to wait so long to do so because I need more Selene and Aiden in my life.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book, it was just what I needed after finishing a rather heavy read. I considered it a Halloween read but it’s set at Christmas time so it’s like two holidays for the price of one :)

Selene is a witch. She is cursed because of drama between her grandmother and another witch, way before Selene was born.
Her best friend is also a witch. While Selene lives with some pretty unfortunate curses, she can’t leave town. She is cursed to fail in love and can’t leave the town where almost everyone but her best friend look at her suspiciously every time something bad happens. Selene is a good person, a good witch, and it’s a shame that she’s often the source of gossip.

Aiden works with his best friend Eddie on a streaming tv series. They investigate unusual, possibly paranormal, situations together. Eddie is the believe, Aiden the cynic.
They go to Eddie’s hometown together to spend the holidays and also to investigate the story of a witch.

Aiden doesn’t know Selene is a witch when they meet and Selene doesn’t know about Aiden’s job. They are just pulled together.

While Eddie’s family seems like they’re straight out of a Hallmark Christmas movie, Aiden is not willing to get pulled into it all. He’d rather spend his time with Selene.

It seems like their potential relationship could be cursed before it begins but you definitely will be rooting for them both to find happiness together.

I got an early copy of this book from the author through NetGalley. Thank you for sharing it with me! It was a perfect Halloween read for me, I’m someone that doesn’t like things that are actually scary. This felt more like magical realism.

Popsugar Reading Challenge - A book about Witches.

I didn't love, but I don't dislike it either.

Somewhere around 60%, I realized that I didn't care about any of the characters and I figured out the mystery, so...yeah.

I will still probably check out the rest of the series though. Cute books about Black witches that I didn't love are better than no books about Black witches.

In the seventies, Selene Blackstone's grandmother royally pissed off another witch who cursed the family; none of the women in their line will be allowed to leave Brimrock (Brim-rock; Black-stone -- I was expecting more of a connection but none ever came up) and none will find love. In fact, the Blackstone family has been blamed for every evil in the town since then. Which makes it really fun to be there but Selene still does the best she can, even working at the library where her boss hates her but she still gets to spend time with books.
Aiden O'Hare is making a living as the skeptical part of a duo of paranormal hunters on an online platform that seems to be similar to YouTube. He really doesn't believe in magic or the paranormal and he really doesn't enjoy the holidays but he is in Brimrock with his best friend/co-host in order to spend Christmas with the co-host's family (very much against his will but it seems like he's got nothing better to do.) Little does he know that he is about to find a real-live witch.
This was a nice start to a series. A little jerky in places and it seemed like some parts weren't developed while others were developed too much but I liked both Selene and Aiden. And their sex scene was very much more realistic than some which I really enjoyed (I'm guessing that there are few people who have male partners who haven't experienced this at one point or another.) Some of the other characters didn't get as many dimensions (especially the Big Bad) but I'm hoping that further books will give us more insights into some of them. Plenty of sequel bait.
