This is my favorite book I have finished so far this year. The story follows Yara, a Palestinian-American woman, on her journey of discovering her own strength and finding self-acceptance. It is a beautiful portrait of female rage and empowerment. The story wonderfully paints a picture of life’s complexities, while acknowledging the intersectional hardships Yara faces in her everyday life. I randomly picked up this book, not fully sure what it would be about, and I am grateful that I did.

It was just too sad and when I reread the description I realized it was going to get worse. I am all for an exploration of what is going on psychologically but the situation just seemed so shitty.
