Sisters, I liked this book so much until the end. Quintessential nosleep vibes meets Shutter Island? We know that something bad has happened, that there is some evil that needs to be watched, but not what or why or even how. Love the mixed media presentation. I understood the motivations for Willow (consumed by grief far beyond a reasonable person) but it wasn't fleshed out enough to actually make sense with her decisions, especially her acknowledgment of Jacob not being real but then still has to go with him just because it's Jacob... It wasn't the greatest book but I could overlook many of the problems until then, and then I was just annoyed. Still vibes were overall creepy and I had a fun ride - read this in just a few sittings. 3.4

This book has some real lovecraft vibes about the story but it’s really well done. Good mystery. A little weak on the “creepy/horror”. More thriller mystery with a supernatural resolution. Audiobook is a banger and the guy reading did awesome vocal work in the final chapters with the “horror” that gave me chills. Absolutely worth the read. / listen.
The premise of this book is nuts, so I don't know why I'm surprised that the content was totally nuts, but I guess it's that it turned out to be nuts in a way I wasn't expecting. Three stars for total and complete originality, but I honestly am struggling to think of a single person I would recommend this book to. It turns out this is the author's first book, having previously had viral posts on the NoSleep subreddit. Soooo perhaps I recommend this to fans of the NoSleep subreddit!

I just couldn’t get into this one. It took a lot to make it to the end. I don’t think it was poorly written, the story just didn’t captivate me.
